For the second time in three days, someone shot at a house in the Eureka area in the middle of the night — and, for the second time, the people inside were lucky. On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 2:36 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office Emergency Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the area of 18th Street in Eureka, California. Deputies responded and located a residence on Harwill Court, in the Myrtletown area just east of the city, that had been struck by gunfire. No injuries were reported.

What deputies found on Harwill Court

The Sheriff's Office said its Major Crimes Division responded to the Harwill Court scene and is actively investigating. Investigators are following up on leads to identify those responsible, and preliminary information indicates this was a targeted shooting — not a random one, in the Sheriff's assessment. At this time, no suspects have been identified. The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance as investigators work to identify and locate those responsible. In its release, the Sheriff's Office added: 'This type of violence has no place in Humboldt County. The Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Division will continue working diligently with our local law enforcement partners to identify, locate and arrest those responsible for this senseless act of violence.'

Three days earlier: the Higgins Street drive-by

The Harwill Court shooting came three days after a similar attack across town. On Saturday, October 31, 2026, at approximately 5:50 a.m., the Sheriff's Emergency Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the 500 block of Higgins Street in Eureka, in the Pine Hill area. Deputies discovered that a residence and a vehicle had been struck by gunfire. Witnesses reported seeing a white sedan with a red top travelling eastbound on Higgins Street immediately after the shots were fired. No injuries were reported in that shooting either.

The stolen Kia Soul recovered in McKinleyville

Later on October 31, at approximately 1:35 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 2200 block of McKinleyville Avenue in McKinleyville, north of Eureka, following a report of a suspicious vehicle. They located a white and red 2016 Kia Soul that had been reported stolen from Eureka earlier that morning. The vehicle matched the description witnesses gave after the Higgins Street shooting and is believed to have been used in the drive-by, the Sheriff's Office said. Deputies have not announced any arrest in that case, and the Sheriff's Office has not said the two shootings are connected — the link, so far, is timing, method and geography: two homes hit before dawn, three days apart, in the same small metro area.

How to help

Anyone with information about either shooting — including surveillance footage from the Harwill Court / 18th Street area early on November 3, or the Higgins Street area on October 31 — is asked to contact the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff's Office Tip Line at (707) 268-2539.

The place: Myrtletown, Pine Hill and the Eureka metro

Eureka is the county seat of Humboldt County on California's North Coast, about 270 miles north of San Francisco, and the largest city for well over a hundred miles in any direction. Myrtletown is an unincorporated community directly east of the city, and Pine Hill sits to the south — both are residential areas of the same small metro, which means two targeted house shootings in three days are felt across neighbourhoods that share schools, roads and shopping areas. Redwood News, the local television station, framed Tuesday's appeal the same way the Sheriff's Office did: a second shooting in the last three days, with investigators asking the public to call the tip line with anything relevant.

What is solid, and what is not

What is solid

  • A Harwill Court residence in Myrtletown was struck by gunfire early on November 3, no injuries were reported, and the Sheriff's Major Crimes Division calls it targeted, per the Sheriff's Office.
  • On October 31 a Higgins Street residence and vehicle were struck, witnesses saw a white sedan with a red top leaving, and a stolen white-and-red 2016 Kia Soul believed used in that shooting was recovered in McKinleyville the same day.
  • No suspects have been identified and no arrests have been announced in either shooting.

What is only claimed

  • The Sheriff's Office has NOT said the Harwill Court and Higgins Street shootings are connected; any link is unproven at this stage.
  • One early secondary summary of the Higgins Street case claimed an injury; the Sheriff's Office's own releases say no injuries were reported, and this report follows the official account.

What happens next

Both investigations remain active. The next developments that matter are surveillance video or witness accounts that identify a vehicle or a person, any statement from the Sheriff's Office connecting — or ruling out a connection between — the two shootings, and arrests. Until then, deputies are asking residents around Harwill Court, 18th Street and Higgins Street to check doorbell and security cameras for the early-morning hours of November 3 and October 31 and to call (707) 445-7251 or the tip line at (707) 268-2539. Awaaz Punjab will update this story if the Sheriff's Office names a suspect or makes an arrest.
