On motive, the two reports differ in emphasis and police have not confirmed a trigger. The CSR Journal said preliminary inquiries suggested marital discord as a possible factor while noting that all possibilities were being investigated; Report Wire said police declined to confirm any specific trigger and that investigators were examining every angle, including recent behavioural changes and possible personal or financial stressors.

The CSR Journal also reported that investigators found the detained man's statements inconsistent and erratic and were arranging a medical evaluation as the investigation proceeds — a detail reported by that outlet alone at the time of writing. What happens next will depend on the police investigation, the post-mortem and questioning, and any court proceedings that follow. Awaaz Punjab is not publishing graphic details of the incident.
